2024 Daniel Ricciardo

F1's 1997 world champion Villeneuve, said on Friday that Ricciardo's "image" rather than his results have extended the RB driver's career in the sport. What could have been a stagnant ending to a rollercoaster career was saved by a tactical favour issued by the Red Bull pit wall when Ricciardo was called in for one final stop in an attempt to steal the extra point for the fastest lap from Lando Norris. Albon reacted to the Australian’s strategy on the following lap, successfully remaining ahead of Ricciardo as the pairing daniel ricciardo max verstappen started to work their way back up to the rear of the field before the Williams driver retired due to overheating issues. Soaking up what seemed to be his last moments in the VCARB 01, Ricciardo was emotional as he arrived in the TV pen, hit with the realisation that he may have just completed his final race as a Formula 1 driver. But fate tried to deny him again, as a power unit problem robbed him of around 25 percent of his engine performance forcing himself to heavily defend Vettel for two thirds of the race.

At the Qatar Grand Prix, Ricciardo was knocked out in Q2, qualifying 14th, and could only manage 12th in the race after fuel issues hindered his opportunity to progress. Ricciardo managed to end his pointless streak at the penultimate race in Saudi Arabia. Despite getting knocked out in Q2, qualifying in 11th place, he benefitted from decent pace and a pit-stop during red flags to gain positions. He ran in fourth after the second red flag, challenging Esteban Ocon for the podium position before he lost his fourth place to eventual third-place finisher Valtteri Bottas and settled for fifth place. At the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, Ricciardo managed to qualify in 10th place.
But rather than keep quiet about what could happen, Ricciardo took his chance in front of media to summarize his career and come face to face with what he’s been fighting for. To understand how Ricciardo’s job came under threat, we need to turn the clocks back to early summer. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez saw a shocking fall-off in performance, and as McLaren began to carve away at Red Bull’s lead in the World Constructors’ Championship, the team scrambled. Having finished sixth in the constructors’ standings just two years ago, the Faenza squad slumped to ninth in 2022 and are now, as mentioned, at the bottom of the order with just three points from 12 races. I think the main thing was… Yes, I was happy with my performance, but I was happy about the way I was kind of going racing again.

After beating Max Verstappen's Red Bull away from the grid, Ricciardo controlled the race from the front. Norris and others were never very far behind, but the leader was going only as fast as was needed to keep them at bay. The fastest final-lap time was Ricciardo's way of making sure people understood what was going on. Ricciardo initially passed Verstappen for fourth place on Lap 35 of the Azerbaijan GP after he flew around the Dutchman’s outside.
Technically, Ricciardo has only one home race on the Formula 1 calendar – but the driver from Australia cites Austin as a second one, having developed a fondness for the venue over the years. Ever since his arrival on the F1 grid back in 2011, Daniel Ricciardo has become a firm favourite with fans for his exploits both on and off the track. The target of Sergio Perez's Red Bull seat quickly vanished, as Christian Horner put his support behind the struggling Mexican. Yet even if Checo's drive was up for grabs next year, Ricciardo's own issues have raised doubts in their own right.

The Australian took full advantage of Hamilton and Rosberg both having brake problems to win from P6 on the grid. Mercedes were in a league of their own in 2014 after acing the introduction of F1’s 1.6L V6 turbo-hybrid power unit. Their engine saw Hamilton beat his teammate Rosberg by 0.636s at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with Ricciardo the best of the rest but 49.014s back. Rain drenched Monte Carlo ahead of the race but Ricciardo controlled the field through the opening exchanges. Yet he lost the lead after stopping to swap the full wet for intermediate tyres, whereas Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes stayed out on full wets until slicks were viable. In the realm of racing, Daniel Ricciardo's quote encapsulates a profound truth that extends far beyond the tracks. "Never underestimate the power of a positive attitude and self-belief" speaks to the strength of one's mindset and confidence in achieving success. Ricciardo reminds us that our mental state holds incredible force and can help us overcome any obstacle that comes our way. With a positive outlook and unwavering self-belief, we are empowered to push through challenges, adapt to adversity, and reach new heights.
This debate was ignited further by comments from 1980 F1 champion Alan Jones, suggesting Ricciardo might be past his best. Daniel Ricciardo is an excellent example of an athlete with a remarkable performance and a solid sportsman who leaves f1 waving. The handover during the helmet change that Lando had with Oscar Piastri represents the transfer of the generational baton from one group of Australian drivers to another. His positive speech over Piastri also emphasizes his willingness to foster young prospects in the sporting discipline. On Thursday, the last moments of one F1 weekend were shared by Ricciardo through social media, where he sent his last wishes for his last race. This seemingly was an act of passing the torch to the next generation of Australian drivers.

"It's working well. The car suits him this weekend and when you have a car that suits you, you drive at your best. The positional losses prompted Ricciardo’s second visit to the pitlane at the end of the lap, seeing the Australian rejoining back in last place, 10 seconds behind Gasly. The Japanese driver was instructed to close the two-second gap up to Ricciardo, with the Australian not putting up a fight as he let Tsunoda by on the straight.
He secured his first podium finish at the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix with Red Bull Racing. Daniel joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2008, a significant step towards his Formula 1 career. In 2005, he entered the Western Australian Formula Ford Championship, finishing eighth in his debut season. Daniel Ricciardo's journey to becoming a Formula 1 driver is filled with interesting tidbits. Ultimately, the main goal for Ricciardo remains catapulting into a seat at Red Bull.

“He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit. Ricciardo was allowed to pass teammate Lando Norris before going on to sprint past Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon as he surged up to the seventh position. Ricciardo was handed a 10-second penalty by the race stewards who deemed him to be at fault for the crash. Daniel Ricciardo’s stint at the Mexican Grand Prix almost turned into a disaster, only for the Australian to turn it around and produce one of his best races of the season. It almost ended in disaster at the Mexican Grand Prix for the Australian who turned it around to be voted driver of the day. "I can't control anything that's going to happen. I can control what happens on track. I don't even take it race by race. I take it session by session."
